Dominika Hofman

Dominika Hofman graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk in 2011. She collaborated with Breakthru Films Studio on "Loving Vincent," the first fully painted feature film nominated for an Academy Award, in 2014. Living in Gdynia, Poland, she has exhibited her work widely in Poland and France, recently holding her first solo exhibition in the U.S.

Her art merges realism and surrealism, showcasing a mastery of light, color, and materiality. Inspired by classical art and the Old Masters, she balances traditional techniques with innovative approaches. Each piece starts with expressive acrylic and spray-painted backgrounds, later refined with layers of oil.

Recurring themes in her work include shells and pearls, symbolizing transformation and feminine strength. Hofman’s unique technique involves layering gesso for a smooth base and using translucent glazes to create depth and movement, revealing subtle shifts in light and color. Through her art, she explores the blend of tradition and modernity, inviting reflection on the beauty of light.
